Turkey Trot Time!

To recap last year: Time 36:24 (7:19 pace) and 720th place.  Only seriously running again for a couple months before. My ultimate goal this year was to run 31:30 but my training the last couple weeks was iffy so I softened it to 32:30

Course: It's a point to point 8k which starts in the North of the city and is a straight shot ending downtown.  It's fairly flat but has some long false flats and slight uphills during the first 3 miles which can be draining.  Once again it hi its cap of 13200 registrants.

Pre-Race/Weather:  It's chilly and about 40 out with sun.  Perfect running weather.  Since Wineglass, my running has been real sporadic and not good at all.  Plus I've been non-specifically sick for the last 2 weeks so I was even debating running.  Ashley has not feeling good and her Asthma was acting up so she bailed.  I decided to stick it out and jogged over the 1 mile to the start. I went to line up at the 6min/mile pace line and just like last year there were lots of people lined up inappropriately.  A pair next to me was hoping to break 55 minutes and I had a 6 year old  and some older ladies in front of me.  I was talking to a friend after the race and it's getting dangerous for the dozen or so rows of people behind the start.  If they want to run a race that big, it's time they go to a seeded corral for anyone looking to run under 35.

Race:  It's off and I get settled.  The first mile feels great at 6:08, suprising myself.  I let it slow to 6:20 the next becasue I didn't think running 6:10 was going to work today.  The next mile was were it all fell apart, I knew I should have started slower.  Mile 3 and 4 were 3:39 and 6:35 and I sucking wind and ready to blow up.  During the last 2 miles the people started to catch me but I knew I had to let them go.  Finished up the last mile in 6:26 and hit my goal time coming in at 32:12.  Finish was 189 of 11899 using the gun time. Got 23 of 690 in my age group.

I was moderately happy with my finish especially with how I've been feeling.  I really would have liked to go a little faster but it just wasn't in the stars.  Once I'm feeling up to snuff I'm getting back on the training train and ready to build mileage for summer racing.  I have some mighty goals lined up

Man, that is a HUGE turkey trot. 13,000 runners?

Big improvement over the past year... awesome job!

Yeah, it's a huge race, non stop steam if people. Outside of the boilermaker it's the biggest one I run regularly. It's also the oldest continuously run race in north America, not missing a year since 1896
